Tattoo Aftercare

Tattoo aftercare is vital to the longevity of your tattoo! how your tattoo looks three months or three years from now depends upon how you treat it right away.

Follow these steps to promote a healthy tattoo.

Approved lotion: Aquaphor

Approved soap: Ivory

1. Remove bandage after 1 hour.

2. always wash your hands before touching your tattoo. don’t use a washcloth or anything abrasive to wash your tattoo.

3. gently wash tattoo with your bare hands lathered with soap 2 times a day for the first three days, after that once a day.

4. air-dry and apply a thin even layer of the Aquaphor to your tattoo 2-3 times a day.

5. for the first 3 nights wrap your tattoo with saran wrap while sleeping. (before applying the saran wrap make sure you wash your tattoo and apply the Aquaphor.) Wrap must be

removed after 6-7 hours. Wash tattoo and apply the Aquaphor after removing wrap.

6. Keep the tattoo fresh and open to air during the day. Wear loose clothing during the  healing period.

7. don’t pick or scratch your tattoo!! (Picking or scratching risks pulling out the ink and increases a greater risk of infection.) Flaking or peeling is a natural part of the healing process.

8. You must avoid hot tubs, bathtubs, swimming pools, lakes, oceans, direct sunlight and tanning beds.

9. Good hygiene and diets also assist in the healing of your tattoo.

10. If you follow these instructions there is no reason your tattoo should not heal up beautifully!! We take pride in the art of tattooing. If you stray from this aftercare

Your skin will form a protective layer no matter what you do. If you do not keep it moist or keep it too moist (it’s a personal balance, different for each individual), it will form a thick, hard scab that may crack when you move. When you form this kind of a scab, the ink sits within it and slowly heals into the skin. When the tattoo is kept moist it doesn’t have a  chance to form a scab but does form a thin membrane to protect the tattoo while it heals. This layer peels off very similar to a sunburn (do not peel your tattoo, you will pull the ink out!) It is normal to see small flakes of colored skin falling off during this stage of the healing. Just a note: Remember that hands and feet reproduce skin cells much faster than other parts of the body. A tattoo in these areas will sometimes take an extra two weeks to heal. During this time refrain from washing dishes, wearing gloves, or wearing socks and shoes (sandals must  not rub the tattoo.) Any friction of this type will wear away the tattoo within a very short period of time.

Summer tattoo note: to keep your tattoo color from fading, protect it with a good sunscreen or use a specially designed tattoo color guard.

Please consult a physician at any sign of infection or allergic reaction and report any infection or allergic reaction to the tattooist.
